Global Photovoltaic Emerging Market—African Region: Kenya
Kenya has been suffering from power shortages for many years. The development of renewable energy is one of the solutions
for the government to solve the problem of insufficient energy supply. Most of the local renewable energy demand is concentrated
in hydropower and geothermal energy, while photovoltaics and wind power are still in the development stage.
Nearly half of Kenya’s population has no access to electricity, and it is not uncommon in remote rural areas. To solve the problem of
power shortage, the country not only develops natural gas power generation vigorously, but also focuses on the development of renewable
energy. The country is expected to achieve 100% regeneration Target for the proportion of energy generation by 2030.
Kenya's module shipments in recent years range from about 100-180MW. The overall shipment volume is not very high, and the demand
is yet to be developed. Part of the higher shipment volume in 2019 is estimated to be due to the large-scale project signed in 2017. This
is due to the start of construction in 2019 to drive demand for goods.
Sunetraco has entered the Kenya market in 2015.Our monocrystalline solar panels, polycrystalline solar panels and complete systems
are hot selling in Kenya. In 2021, Sunetraco will develop large-scale solar projects in Kenya. At the same time, it also helps people in
Kenya's power-deficient areas to use electricity successfully.
