India's Increase In Taxes On Photovoltaic Modules In 2022
Recently, India’s Ministry of Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced that it would impose a basic tariff (BCD) on imported solar modules
from April 1, 2022.
The basic tariff on solar modules is 40% and solar cells are 25%.
A senior official of India’s New Energy and Renewable Energy Agency stated that the Ministry of Taxation has “basically” agreed to the
above decision. The Department of Energy requires tariffs to be collected within 5 years, and the final tax rate and deadline will be
determined by the Department of Taxation.Generally speaking, the tax collection will be implemented as soon as possible, but the
Department of Energy has proposed to the Department of Taxation for an appropriate extension. He added: "This may take at
least three years, because it will bring certainty to the policy and allow investors to learn from it."
Indian solar manufacturers believe that long-term BCD is essential to the vigorous development of the industry. As the policy
implementation has a one-year buffer period,Indian companies will rush to increase the import volume of modules before the policy is
implemented. This policy is expected to stimulate India's export market before March 31, 2022!
